Water heater basics from EnerCare Solutions.

  • Set your water heater at a consistent temperature
     
  • Keep the area surrounding your water heater clear
     
  • Make sure the floor drain is free of obstructions and that there is a clear water path between the water heater and the drain
     
  • Avoid storing valuable items near your water heater
     
  • Always test the water temperature before you enter the bath or shower
     
  • Supervise infants and small children around faucets
     
  • Watch for sudden increases in water temperature when another faucet is turned on in a different area of the home
     
  • Consider using foam pipe wraps for the water heater lines to help prevent heat loss.  Use of a blanket on an electric water heater is not prohibited; however, if you require service or exchange, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to remove the blanket and replace at their expense. Please note, the use of a blanket on a gas water heater tank is prohibited.
